Mary Spina Wheeler is a nationally-recognized Higher Education and Nonprofit Accounting, Finance and Administrative pacesetter. She has been lauded by colleagues and the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) as a subject matter expert and valued resource on nonprofit accounting strategy formulation, implementation and administration.

Mary’s accomplishments include:

  • Reengineered organizations and processes to increase efficiency/productivity, upgrade financial reporting, strengthen controls, reduce operating expenses and propel income.
  • Instituted University organizational changes that reduced the annual audit fee by $100,000.
  • Successfully managed the on-time and on-budget implementation of the Kuali Financial System, transforming University Finance and Administration operations from paper-based to a completely automated digital system.
  • Author of the NACUBO Endowment Unitization Guide, a key resource for charitable organizations with endowments, universities and foundations.
  • Contributor to the NACUBO Financial Accounting and Reporting Manual (FARM) providing accounting and financial reporting guidance to public and independent colleges, universities and foundations.
